methane    音标拼音: [m'ɛθ,en]
n. 甲烷,沼气

甲烷,沼气

methane
n 1: a colorless odorless gas used as a fuel

Methane \Meth"ane\, n. [See {Methal}.] (Chem.)
A light, colorless, gaseous, inflammable hydrocarbon, {CH4};
marsh gas. It is the simplest of the aliphatic hydrocarbons.
See {Marsh gas}, under {Gas}.
[1913 Webster]

{Methane series} (Chem.), a series of saturated hydrocarbons,
of which methane is the first member and type, and
(because of their general chemical inertness and
indifference) called also the {paraffin (little affinity)
series}. The lightest members are gases, as methane,
ethane; intermediate members are liquids, as hexane,
heptane, etc. (found in benzine, kerosene, etc.); while
the highest members are white, waxy, or fatty solids, as
paraffin proper.
[1913 Webster]

methanogen \methanogen\ n.
A type of archaebacteria found in anaerobic environments such
as animal intestinal tracts or sediments or sewage, and
capable of producing {methane}; a source of natural gas.

  • Methane - Wikipedia
Methane is an organic hydrocarbon, and among the simplest of organic compounds Naturally occurring methane is found both below ground and under the seafloor and is formed by both geological and biological processes The largest reservoir of methane is under the seafloor in the form of methane clathrates
  • Methane | Definition, Properties, Uses, Facts | Britannica
Methane, colorless, odorless gas that occurs abundantly in nature and as a product of certain human activities Methane is the simplest member of the paraffin series of hydrocarbons and is among the most potent of the greenhouse gases
  • FACT SHEET: METHANE: ANSWERS TO FAQS - US EPA
Methane (CH4), also known as marsh gas or fire damp, is an odorless, colorless, flammable gas Methane is the main component (97%) of natural gas and one of the most abundant organic compounds on Earth Methane, like other hydrocarbons (fossil fuels), can generate heat and energy when burned How is methane produced?
  • Methane pollution is rising, but UN says cutting it could have big . . .
U N officials say methane emissions are still going up, but they have hope that cutting them in coming years could have big implications for slowing Earth's warming
  • Methane - Earth Indicator - NASA Science
Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas and is the second-largest contributor to Earth's warming after carbon dioxide (CO2) A molecule of methane traps more heat than a molecule of CO2, but methane has a relatively short lifespan of 7 to 12 years in the atmosphere
  • Methane (CH₄) - Definition, Structure, Preparation, Uses, Benefits . . .
Methane (CH₄) is a colorless, odorless gas that plays a crucial role in both the environment and the energy sector It is the simplest form of a hydrocarbon, consisting of one carbon atom bonded to four hydrogen atoms (CH₄)
  • Methane - Center for Science Education
Methane accounts for about 20% of the heating effects by all of the greenhouse gases combined Both natural and human sources supply methane to Earth's atmosphere Major natural sources of methane include emissions from wetlands and oceans, and from the digestive processes of termites
  • Methane facts and information | National Geographic
Cows and bogs release methane into the atmosphere, but it's by far mostly human activity that's driving up levels of this destructive greenhouse gas
  • Facts about Methane - UNEP - UN Environment Programme
Methane (CH4), the primary component of natural gas, is responsible for approximately a third of the warming we are experiencing today
  • What is methane and why is it a safety concern?
What is methane and why is it a safety concern? Methane (a gas composed of carbon and hydrogen) is produced two ways: Through biologic decomposition of organic matter at shallow depths Swamps, landfills, and even shallow bedrock are some settings where this occurs
